Topic Discussion 3

Who regulates the internet?
I think that is no one regulates it.

Do you think there should be internet censorship?
I could not give the define answer because it have too much variable reasons.
If should be, that will be worry to strictly over about content.
If should not be, that will occur more of language incident in online.
In my reflection, internet censorship should be exist in network,

Why?
Although people are hope to hold a communication of free speech, but if a report of uncorroborated true of false occur in online, it must be will lead to even more disturbance.
It just only more of more personal attacks and the comments of no relationship appear in the network.

Topic 2

I'm aware of this issue, and I believe that a lot of people also aware of this, but in reality, how many people actually realize the potential danger that this issue may bring?

If I have to give an example, lets look at us Malaysian, we know that our personal security and information are at risk, but in general, how many people did take this issue seriously? Minority.

This probably caused by the safe situation and environment that we have in Malaysia. Here, we barely have any cyber crime nor cases related to cyber crime, unlike what happen in the United States where crimes related to personal information and security is the norm, most social network user in United Stated barely put any pictures nor personal information in their profile to avoid any information leaked.

In February 2012, people from Malaysia was recorded as the 2nd most active in using Facebook in Southeast Asia, and the highest status poster and photo uploader also came from Malaysia, and to be exact, this issue not only related to Facebook alone, there are plenty social network site that exist on the net, just imagine how much potential danger exist with that.

So, back to the question, should we stay on Facebook after knowing this?
It depends, if you could stick at using Facebook as solely as social media, and not as a tool to tell the whole world everything about you, by any means, keep using it.

Topic 2

In fact, I am not a user of facebook because of the internet environment of China. But I also use other social network or web sites to communicate with my friends and my family. Because the functions of these website are similar to each other, like, you can tag a friend or someone you know in a picture in a crowd of strangers.

After reading the article "Facebook's Privacy Issues Are Even Deeper Than We Knew", I think this kind of Issues are not only happened in Facebook, it is widely happened in our social network.Even in this blog, you can target on my user information, and see my pictures on google+, and find more information about me step by step if you have enough patience.

If we want to focus on the privacy issues, Facebook is only a little tip of the iceberg. Every trace of using the social network is the mark to show who we really are.

For example: A friend identifies a furniture advertisement posted by me in a forum, and she speaks nicely to help me in the advertisement. Then somebody check her user information of her and find there's a blog address. The "somebody" check out my friend's address, find out a tagged picture of us and the name of the tag is similar to the nickname witch i used to post the advertisement. The"somebody" links to my blog from my friend's bolg and see another picture i took in front of my university. OK, the "somebody" now knows I am a MMU student, how I look like, and also i am selling furniture!

If you are worried about the pictures of yourself posted on internet, you should know the point is not the witch website it is, but who is the poster. Actually, most of time, it is yourself, or your friends.

So, we should not blame the social website about the privacy issues. when we use the social network, we know about the functions and how it effect at the very beginning. The information, pictures, speachs, ect, all posted and published by ourselves. We should control the method of using the social websites, like Facebook, instead of worring about the functions effect to our personal privacy. We should be responsiable for ourselves.

Are you aware of this?

Actually, no.Why? please read the statement above.

Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?

Yes i will. Why? please read the statement above.

Topic 2: Facebook's Privacy Issues

Facebook, for me, that is just a platform for communication.
I also have an Facebook account, even more than one. And, had upload some picture from time to time.
But, after reading the article, I get some feeling in panic because Facebook maybe will use my picture for commercial use without asking. This act must infringe on personal privacy.
Therefore, i still have continue using Facebook because it is a part of life for me.
And I will take action for protect my personal privacy. For example, minimize the upload picture, use pre-post privacy setting, organize your contacts in group and limited your personal informationin your profile.

Topic 2-Facebook’s privacy issues

I know already know about this issues. In my opinion, I will still on facebook because facebook give me a lot of help and information like know a lot of people around the world, some information that never post in newspaper and other. But need to protect own privacy by not give the full information about yourself and some privacy thing like daily activity.

Topic 1

Apparently, this amendment has already passed in the parliament under the Evidence Act 1950 in April 2012, but nobody really aware about this Act until it been brought to light only recently.

So to clarify, with the amendment  of this act, I or someone who uses my name, can be sued or arrested for defamation when posting a negative comment on any social media channel.

Some people think that the amendment of this act is appropriate, and with how lawless the Internet is, this act does seems appropriate, but in the end, it just a law created by a simple human mind, and of course it has a serious flaw to it.

Lets imagine a scenario,

you and your friend, both of you have a Facebook account, on one silly day, your friend decided to play silly prank by updating a status on your Facebook saying "MMU's level of education is 3rd grade".  Somehow later, lets say the Dean of MMU happen to saw that status, and decided to take a serious action about it, normally you won't even give a damn because you are not the one who did it, but then again, due to this new law section, MMU have all the rights to sue you for spreading negative image on MMU.
But of course, you still can defend yourself if you prove that it wasn't you who did it, but can you?  How are you gonna prove that your friend has log in into your account at the day of the crime? You need an evidence, but its impossible to have one unless you put a CCTV inside your room.
You can also prove your innocence by making your friend admit his/her crime, but again, can you?
You want to force your friend to admit it? You then can be charge under Malaysian Act Vol 12. Act 574 Section 384 : Putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion.
Source: http://www.agc.gov.my/Akta/Vol.%2012/Act%20574.pdf

So, simply put, the moment your friend played that prank on you, you are doomed, and that just one example from hundredth type scenario that could happen.

In my opinion, this act need to be reviewed as it bring more harms rather than good, and as a fellow Malaysian, I think we need to make a mass awareness about this, a lot of people still live in ignorance of serious things that happen around them, this need to be changed.

EDIT: Fun Fact: Section 114A doesn't applied to UMNO Youth

TOPIC 1

What is ACT114A?

On 18 April, Nazri Aziz tabled a second amendment to the Evidence Act 1950 in Dewan Rakyat. James Dawos Mamit supported the motion, and the Evidence (Amendment) (No2) Act 2012 was passed after the second and third reading. On 9 May, Dewan Negara passed the amendment.

114A is the newly added section to the Evidence Act 1950. The amendment has wide-ranging reach and extends to practically everyone who uses any Internet platform–from e-mail and social media, to blogs and online media.

How would ACT114A affect you?

Base on this Act if your account has been hacked, or used in any other unknown reason in the situation you do not know or can not explain the speaker's identity, you will take the responsibility for any of the online post witch is  considered seditious or defamatory by the government, you are guilty until proven innocent.

Does it really matter?

Yes it does.It allows hackers and cyber criminals to be free by making the person whose account/computer is hacked liable for any content/data which might have changed.

Should you be concerned?

Yes we should be concerned. This act is not scientific.

topic discussion 1 - ACT114a

Section 114A is a new amendment to the Evidence Act 1950 in Malaysia.
This law will impact anyone who uses the Internet, computers, or mobile devices thatwhich means just about everyone, from individual users to businesses.
Due to the law has only recently been gazetted, we don,t know exactly how it will be applied, but below of article will explain what can affect you and me as a result of Section 114A.

The Section 114A really matter within communication.
For example, Chong set up a private Wifi network in his house. Any device within 500m of his home can detect Chong's Wifi. The network is password-protected, but the password is not very strong.
And Ahmad's computer is within the range of Chong's Wifi network. After a few attempts,
Chong successfully connects to Ahmad's network and "leeches" Ahmad"s Wifi without
his knowledge or consent.
While he is connected to Ahmad's network, Chong sends an email to all his contacts that accuses his boss of wrongdoing.
Chong uses a false name in his e-mail address to conceal his identity.
After receiving the email, Chong's boss seeks to sue the sender for defamation.
The authorities trace the email back to Ahmad's private Wifi network.
According to Section 114A, Ahmad is deemed the publisher and could be sued for a defamatory email he did not send.

Though above of article, we know we all will become guilty if we doing wrong something in others' Wifi network. Moreover, the Section 114A will cause a lot of unnecessary trouble.

I think everyone, especially Malaysian must be concern this issue, because it will become evolution until to an atmosphere of even have words, but not dare to says!
